Even One Life is Too Many

Things I am not good at: routinely washing my car, signing up for that last grad school class, getting 8 hours of sleep a night (not complaining), being true to my emotions.

It is the last one that has been my biggest struggle as of late. For years I have bottled up my emotions and not dealt with them, it had become a form of self-preservation. Thankfully through the patience of others, this is no longer my initial reaction. I now choose to try and talk things out via text, email, or verbally. Finding safety in conversation has not been a quick process and I am very thankful to those that have walked along side as I learned how this works.

This is something I wish I had learned to do years ago. This is something that I am very grateful to have found. This is something I wish everyone had.

Even one life is too many to lose.
While we should do this daily, I encourage you on the 22nd of every month to call and check your battle buddy. It takes just a moment. Military or not, we deserve to see each other tomorrow.

Rainy Day "Hike"

Plans for an early morning hike of the Puu O Hulu (pillbox hike) were altered this morning due to pouring rain. Beau and I had a mini heart to heart about changing our plans.
So instead we headed over to the Kawainui Marsh Trail to stretch our legs. A very humid morning but not a lot of people out. There times when it felt as though we were alone on the walk.
My boy was exhausted after the walk and slept hard when we got home.

Twelve, Three Times

My birthday this year was spent training with my teammates at work. It was a good and productive day.

Over the weekend, I celebrated with lunch at my favorite food truck followed by an afternoon with my boy at a local dog park (before his annual check up at the vet).
Sunday morning was spent with friends and one of their dogs walking up to the Makapu'u lighthouse. Lots of other people, but still very peaceful.
