Put OnCall!!!

My first night back to work after a week in Alaksa was well spent. I got a phone call around 1600 from the dayshift charge nurse asking me if I wanted to go bowling. I responded sounding a little confused telling her that I was scheduled to be at work. She then told me that I was being placed oncall. After sleeping all day going bowling for a good chunk of the night was great. I had a blast! Bowling should be a weekly event!

Getting to Wasilla, Alaska

Long flights with a little running from terminal to terminal. Did get a few minutes of sleep. On the bright side, in Alaska you don't ever need headlights at night so you can still see beauty of the mountains!

Playing Soldier

Today I spent the day (all day) at Fort AP Hill playing Soldier. We spent the day getting "familiarized" with the M16 and then qualifying on the M9. We reported to Walter Reed AMC at 0330 to get on a bus at 0400 for the 2 hour drive to the range to sit around for a hour before getting to fire our M16s. CPT Martinez (in the video) and I work together in the MICU/PICU. He and I zero'd our weapons pretty quick and then sat around waiting for our fellow soldiers to finish. While waiting I spent an hour studying and another hour napping in one of the vans (hard work, I know). After lunch we started sending rounds down range. After three hours of sitting around it was fun to be firing. Once we all finished at the M16 range we went to the M9 range. The M9 range went quickly and was fun. The pop-up targets and having to quickly switch magazines make this range a lot more interactive. After some more sitting around we finally left Fort AP Hill at 2000 and got back to WRAMC at 2200. A long day of hurrying up to wait...the true Army way!

Deployment Plans

I have some more information regarding my upcoming deployment. Here is a brief glimpse of what the next three months will look like:
17JUN - M9/M16 Qualification at the Range
23-29JUN - Anita's Wedding
13-26JUL - Pre-Deployment Leave
3-7AUG - Outprocess from Walter Reed AMC
8AUG - Report to Ft. Benning, GA
There are far more details and training requirements than I am going to put up here but I wanted to share what the next chunk of my life will be looking like. I am hoping to get to see a lot of friends and family when I am at Anita's wedding and while on pre-deployment leave. Looking forward to some fun times with friends and family!
