The CA kid living in snow

We have had a few storms hit since I moved to the DC area, but the one this weekend seemd to drop the most snow. As we worked Saturday night we were constantly looking out the windows and watching the internet to see when the storm was acutally going to hit us. (We really just wanted to know if the dayshift nurses were going to be late or not.) The dayshift arrived on time and by the time my head hit the pillow there was not a flake falling. However, upon waking up at 1600 to get ready to go back to work there was a good 4-6 inches on the ground. It was beautiful! Driving down Georgia Ave to the hospital was absolutely gorgeous! The snow was heavy so the tree limbs were sagging under the weight and there was an amazing sense of calmness as the roads were unusually empty from most people staying home. And I learned a new concept...when snow is forcasted or has just fallen it is important to leave for work even earlier than normal especially if you are training to be the charge nurse. Before the strom hit my preceptor mentioned that to me so I could show up on time and continue to lead by example. She rocks!
Yup, I did say that...charge nurse. I hve been on my floor for almost 4 weeks now and am training to be charge. Because we have to have an Officer assume the role of charge we have to all be trained as occasionally the Officer in charge will be the only military on the floor for the shift.
And to my fellow nurses, remember your ABC's when you are having difficulty waking a patient.

I am a Mommy! Sort of...

So, I went out and got myself some rats. Yup, three gorgeous fancy rats. The grey and white one is named Pheonix (ever seen the movie Griffin and Pheonix?) , the all tan one is Baby, and the white and tan one is Munchkin. I thik they are soooo cute! I was only going to get two, but there were three sisters at the pet store and I felt bad separating them, so I got all three. Aren't they adorable!?! When I am home and not sleeping (I am on nights right now) my girls live in the hood of my sweatshirt. They crawl around on my shoulders and then fall asleep either in the bottom of my hood or with their little heads sticking out of the top. I love my girls!

Random Story

As a CA kid I was taught keep an extra change of clothes in the car along with some food and water. So when I moved to DC I thought I would continue with this. However, it is slightly colder here than in CA. So cold in fact that the waterbottle in my car was frozen solid last evening. I know that I should not be surprised, but I was. This whole cold weather thing is crazy!

Hey Mom and Dad!

Once again, I have a blog for my parents. This is a quick tour of my place. The couches came today (whoopee!) and so did the internet guy so now I am set, almost. I am sure there are a few finishing touches but for now I am pretty happy.

And yes, I did clean the kitchen just for the picture! Can't wait for you to come out and visit!
